Prisoner of Paradise

Based on the life of Kurt Gerron, a famous German-Jewish comedian and director, and Ho Feng Shan, a Chinese diplomat in Vienna. Gerron, who had to flee to the Netherlands during Hitler's purge of the Jews, was later captured and forced to make propaganda films in concentration camps, tragically ended up on a train to the gas chambers. The story interweaves with Ho Feng Shan's efforts to help Jews escape through visas. A documentary film about Gerron, directed by Malcolm Clarke, was nominated for an Oscar in 2002.
